Appreciation post: back when you could just apologize and move on
I had to choose between calling out an old coworker publicly or letting it slide after he apologized. I picked the second one because the guy genuinely seemed sorry, and it worked out fine. We still grab a beer at O'Malley's every few months. Makes me wonder if we've lost that middle ground where a simple sorry actually meant something.

Oh man, this totally reminds me of something that happened back in high school! I accidentally spilled my entire lunch tray on this kid in the cafeteria, like soda and everything just all over his brand new white hoodie. He was so pissed and I just stood there frozen, but I blurted out sorry like five times and offered to pay for dry cleaning. He just laughed it off and said don't worry about it, and we ended up being lab partners the next semester. It's weird how a real, quick apology can just diffuse everything if both people are cool about it.

See I gotta disagree here... sometimes quick apologies just let people off the hook too easy. Like yeah he was cool about it but what if that hoodie was expensive or had sentimental value. A real apology needs more than just saying sorry fast.
