Three days of rain turned my $500 tent into a wading pool
Last summer I camped at Lake Tahoe and thought I'd packed smart. Day two the seams gave out and I woke up floating in three inches of cold water at 4am. Has anyone else had a tent fail that badly in normal weather?

That happened to me once with a cheap tent from a big box store, and I learned to always seal the seams myself with a $10 tube of seam sealer before any trip. It took me an afternoon to do, but I never had water come through again even in heavy downpours. I'd rather spend an hour sealing than wake up in a puddle at 4am.

My Kelty leaked on the first night of a five day trip and seam sealer didn't do jack because the issue was the floor fabric itself, not the stitched seams. I'd rather buy a tent from a company that stands behind their gear than spend my trip patching a cheap one.

Man I feel you. I bought a tent from a random brand once and the whole bottom just started soaking through on a misty morning, not even rain. I had to sleep on a tarp the rest of the trip and it was miserable. Never again with that kind of junk.
