The day my tent saved me from a wasp swarm in Shenandoah

Last June I was hiking near the Mary's Rock trail and accidentally kicked a ground nest, got stung five times on the leg before I could run. I dove into my tent, a cheap $60 Coleman I almost left at home, and the mesh kept them out while I waited them out for 40 minutes. Has anyone else had gear unexpectedly become a lifesaver in a pinch, or was I just lucky with that zipper?
