The $15 camp stove flame diffuser I laughed at actually fixed my burnt bacon problem
I bought one of those cheap aluminum flame diffusers at a REI garage sale in Portland last month, mostly as a joke. Used it on a 3 day trip near Mount Hood, and my cheap propane stove finally cooked eggs without scorching the bottom of the pan. Has anyone else found a silly little accessory that became a must-pack item?

Ha, so we're really calling a piece of tin foil a game changer now? I mean, sure, it spreads the heat out, but I've been managing burnt eggs for years by just pulling the pan off the flame for ten seconds. It's a fix for a problem that's mostly about paying attention. But hey, if it keeps your bacon from turning into charcoal, I guess that's worth fifteen bucks. Just don't tell me it's a "must pack" item until you've used it in actual wind and rain, because that's where the real stove magic happens.
