Showerthought: My tent pole snapped in a windstorm at Joshua Tree

I used a piece of duct tape and a spare trekking pole to rig a fix that held for two more nights. Anyone have a better field repair for a broken aluminum pole section?

But what happens when the tape gives out? That's just putting off the real fix, and then you're stuck with a bigger mess later. I'd rather deal with it properly the first time.
