Shoutout to my old sleeping pad that finally gave up after 8 years
I took my Therm-a-Rest Z Lite out to Shenandoah last weekend and noticed it wasn't bouncing back like it used to. After 8 years of use, the foam is so compressed I could feel rocks through it on the second night. I used to wake up feeling great, but now I'm tossing around by 3 AM. I'm thinking about switching to a lightweight inflatable like the Nemo Switchback or just getting a new Z Lite. Has anyone else dealt with foam pads losing their support over time? What did you switch to?

Wait wait wait... eight years?? I can't even remember what I was doing eight years ago. That foam must've been like sleeping on a concrete slab by the end there. I had a similar foam pad that I thought was fine until I borrowed a friend's inflatable for one night and realized I'd been sleeping on basically cardboard for months.

Eight years is a good run for a foam pad.

My buddy had one of those fancy shredded memory foam ones and it was basically a pancake after four years. He said he’d wake up with his hip touching the frame.
