My old 4-person tent from 2015 finally gave out after a storm in the Smokies

I used to pack that heavy Coleman tent for every trip because it was cheap and I thought weight didn't matter. After it ripped last fall, I switched to a lighter 2-person model from REI that packs down way smaller. The change happened because I started doing more backpacking where every ounce counts, not just car camping. It cost me $250, but my back thanks me on every hike now. Has anyone else made the switch to lighter gear and found it changed the type of trips you take?

Your back thanking you is the real review here.

Look at it this way, my back is always going to complain about something. If it's not a tent, it's my old couch or a long shift at work. A little discomfort is part of the adventure, you know? Chasing perfect comfort means you miss out on good deals and spontaneous trips. Sometimes you just grab the gear you can afford and make it work. The memory of the trip matters way more than a perfect night's sleep on the ground.

That Coleman tent was actually a 6-person model, not 4.
