Met a guy at a trailhead in Oregon who fixed my broken tent pole with a stick and some duct tape

He spent 10 minutes whittling a splint from a fallen branch while telling me how he's done this same trick on 3 different trips. Has anyone else found a repair hack that saved your whole weekend?

Used to think being prepared meant buying the lightest, most expensive gear. Then I watched a guy on the PCT fix a broken zipper slider on his tent with a paperclip and watched it hold for the next 200 miles. Now I carry a tiny sewing kit and a handful of zip ties on every trip.

Man, that paperclip story is gold. I had a similar moment when my buddy's cheap-ass hydration bladder sprung a leak in the middle of the Smokies. He just tied the bite valve in a knot and we shared it for three days. Now I carry a small roll of duct tape wrapped around a pen on every hike, and a couple of spare shoelaces. It's crazy how the simplest fixes are the ones that actually save the trip.
