Just threw away $60 on a 'universal' camp stove fuel canister adapter
I picked up this little brass adapter at a big box store last fall, thinking it would let me use any fuel canister with my old stove. The guy at the counter even said it was a great solution. Well, I took it on a trip to the Pine Barrens last weekend and it was a total bust. It leaked fuel the second I tried to screw it on, and the connection felt wobbly and unsafe. I spent 20 minutes fiddling with it before giving up and just eating cold food. That's $60 down the drain, plus a ruined dinner. Has anyone found a reliable adapter that actually works, or should I just bite the bullet and buy a new stove?

Man, that's the worst feeling. I had the same thing happen with a cheap adapter from an online store. Honestly, those universal ones are almost always junk. The threading is never quite right. I ended up just getting the brand-specific adapter from the stove maker, even though it cost a bit more. It clicked on solid and had a proper seal. Maybe check if your stove's company makes one. Sucks to spend more money, but it beats another cold meal.

Actually, some universal adapters work fine if you check the specs first.

Feels like half the stuff sold as universal is just cheap junk they hope you won't test until it's too late.
