Don't buy those cheap solar lanterns from the big box store

I grabbed a pair for $25 thinking they'd be fine for a weekend trip. Both died before the sun even went down on the first night, leaving us in the dark. What's a good, actually reliable brand for basic campsite light?

Yeah, those bargain bin ones are total junk. I read a review last year that really tore into them, showing how the batteries can't hold a charge and the plastic yellows fast. The writer had good luck with a brand called LuminAid for basic area light. They're more money upfront, but you can actually leave them out in the weather and they keep working. My buddy has one that's been on his deck for two seasons and it still turns on every night.

Ever notice how that's true for almost everything now? The cheap stuff costs more in the long run because you just have to replace it.

My cousin's cheap string lights did the same thing last summer, just gave up halfway through her birthday party!
