Blew $340 on a down quilt for my 20 degree bag and I'm sweating all night now
I couldn't decide between a 20 degree down quilt for $340 and a 40 degree synthetic one for $120 for my late September trips in the Sierra, and I went with the down one because everyone online said you can always vent it. Three nights in the low 30s and I woke up clammy every time because the quilt traps way more heat than my old bag ever did, and now I'm second guessing the whole 'buy for the coldest trip' advice. Did I just pick the wrong temp rating, or is there a trick to venting a quilt so you don't roast?
