A ranger's note about my tent stakes changed my whole setup

Last month at Lost River State Park, a ranger saw my cheap stakes bending into the clay and said, 'you're fighting the ground, not holding it.' I switched to 8-inch spiral stakes and honestly, the tent didn't budge during a 30 mph gust. Anyone else get a gear fix from a random park employee?
