A guy at the REI in Denver told me my stove review was useless for cold weather, so I retested it at 18 degrees
I posted a review of my canister stove after a bunch of summer trips and called it a solid all around pick. A commenter named Dave pointed out I never tested it below freezing, and he was right, I had no clue how it acted in the cold. So I took it out to Guanella Pass in March with an 18 degree morning and timed how long it took to melt snow for one cup of water, which came out to just under 11 minutes with a warm canister. That one line in the comments fixed the whole review. Now I want to know, how many of you actually test your winter gear before you post about it?
Wait, Dave at REI just casually saved your whole review and you're out here acting like you guys are even? That 11 minute melt time at 18 degrees is actually useful info though, most people never bother going back to fix a review once it's up. Plenty of folks test gear in their backyard on a nice day and call it a winter review. You went to Guanella Pass in March and timed it, that puts you ahead of about 90 percent of the reviews I read.
