Was reading an old repair manual and found out a 1970s Nikon F2 shutter is timed with a tuning fork
Found it in a scanned PDF from a retired tech's personal notes. Anyone ever had to recalibrate one of those systems?

Wait, a tuning fork" - yeah that was exactly my reaction too when I first saw it. I used to roll my eyes at old camera tech, thought it was all just springs and gears. But seeing that little fork thing in real life totally changed my mind. That's some next level mechanical wizardry.

Always figured those old cameras used some basic spring or gear system. Found a busted F2 at a flea market last year and took it apart just for fun. Seeing that tiny tuning fork setup next to the shutter blades totally flipped my view on how clever those engineers were. It's a weirdly elegant fix for keeping time without a battery. Makes you respect the kind of mechanical thinking that's basically gone now.
