Warning: I thought a $40 ultrasonic cleaner was a total gimmick for shutter assemblies

Tried one on a sticky Nikon FM2 mechanism from a garage sale and it actually worked perfectly. Anyone have a better method for cleaning old leaf shutters?

Read some forum post where an old repair guy swore by naptha for leaf shutters. He said it's the same thing as lighter fluid but cheaper in bulk at the hardware store. Let it dry fully before you test it and you should be fine.

Been there, that's a great find.

Actually read a camera repair book that swore by lighter fluid for leaf shutters. The old Ronsonol stuff, applied with a tiny brush. It evaporates fast and doesn't leave residue. Seems risky but the pros used it for ages.
