Spent $80 on a set of JIS screwdrivers for old Nikons and it was totally worth it

I was stripping Phillips heads left and right before I realized they're actually JIS, and the proper drivers saved a bunch of parts. Anyone else have a go-to tool that fixed a common mistake?

Wait, they're not even Phillips heads? That's wild. I would have kept stripping them forever. Honestly makes me wonder how many other things I've been using the wrong tool on. Good to know for old cameras.

Realize it's the same with a lot of vintage electronics. Found out my old radio uses flathead screws that look like Phillips from a distance. You really need to check the screw head in good light before you start turning.

Yeah, that "look like Phillips from a distance" thing is so true. It's like they used some weird hybrid screw back then. @sandrat24 is right about old cameras too, they're full of odd fasteners. I've messed up a couple screw heads on an old film camera body by assuming they were standard. You really do need to get a bright light and sometimes even a magnifier to be sure. It saves so much headache and ruined parts.
