PSA: bought a $38 'precision' screwdriver kit off a random site and it stripped three JIS screws on a customer's Pentax
Bought a $38 precision kit from some no name site three weeks back because my good JIS drivers were on backorder. First job with them was a Pentax K1000 teardown and the tips rounded off on the very first screw, then chewed up two more before I noticed. Client was cool about it but I had to drill and extract all three, which added two hours to a one hour CLA. If your drivers fit loose and rock in the slot, stop right there. What's everyone running for JIS that actually keeps its edges?
Been there. Bought a "German steel" set off eBay for $45 and the JIS tips felt soft right out of the box. First camera I touched was an ME Super and the driver cammed out on the film advance screw, took me forever to get it out without gouging the body. Cheap drivers are a false savings when you're billing by the hour, the time lost eats the whole kit price in one job. I went back to Vessel and never looked at the cheap stuff again. If the tip rocks even a little in the slot, that thing is going in the trash, not on a customer's camera.
