Just found out I was messing up my shutter speed tests on old SLRs
For the last year, I've been using a basic sound app to check speeds, but a repairer in Portland told me my phone's mic can't catch the fast ones right. He lent me his Mighty Mite tester and my readings on a Nikon FM2 were off by almost a full stop at 1/1000th. Has anyone else found a good, cheap tool for this that actually works?

That "full stop at 1/1000th" is a bit misleading. A full stop would mean it's firing at 1/500th, which is a huge error. It's more likely your shutter is just running slow, like 1/750th, which is a common and smaller drift. The phone mic thing is totally real though.

Wait, 1/500th from 1/1000th... that's double the light. That's a massive screw-up if true. I'd be sending that camera back so fast...
