Debate: is it worth fixing a shutter that's stuck half open vs just swapping the whole lens?
I spent 4 hours last night trying to free a stuck shutter on a vintage 50mm f/1.4 - just a leaf spring that popped out of place. Could have swapped in a donor lens in 20 minutes. Do you guys lean into the deep repair or just take the easy swap when parts are available?

Gotta tell you about my friend Dave who spent a whole weekend trying to fix a stuck aperture on his Nikon and ended up supergluing his fingers to the lens barrel. He just swapped in a donor lens after that and it took ten minutes. Sometimes the deep repair is more trouble than it's worth unless you REALLY love that specific glass.

400 bucks and a weekend of swearing later, Dave's still got a tiny speck of superglue on his thumbnail. Isn't it funny how we'll spend hours fighting a machine just to learn that surrendering and swapping in a part is the real smart move? It's like trying to fix a leaky faucet with a wrench when you could just call a plumber, but you're too stubborn to admit it. @margaret304, that story pretty much sums up why I keep a box of spare electronics in my closet, because sometimes the "fix" is just grabbing the next thing off the shelf. That's real life though, you try to be a hero and end up supergluing your common sense away.
