A roll of film I shot 3 years ago sat in my Pentax for 2 years and the shutter finally locked up
So 3 years ago I bought a beat up Pentax K1000 off a guy in Reno for $40, shot maybe half a roll of Tri-X, then shoved it in a drawer and forgot about it. Last month I pulled it out, tried to fire the shutter, and nothing happened. I figured the battery was dead but a fresh one did nothing either, so I cracked it open and found the mirror was stuck up and the foam seals had basically turned to tar. Took me a whole Saturday to scrape the old foam out with a toothpick and a bit of lighter fluid, then I cut new seals from a sheet I got for $8 online. Fired it 50 times in a row after and it never missed once. Anyone else run into mirror lockup from old foam just sitting there, or is it usually something else going on inside?
