Warning: that 'collector' selling bulk green beans under market price was a total scam for me

I bought 50 pounds of supposedly high-grade beans from a guy on Craigslist last week and they were all stale and moldy, has anyone else gotten burned by these cheap bulk deals popping up around LA?

Got my refund by threatening to post photos of the mold on Craigslist too.

That 50 pound bag from a guy in a van over off Los Feliz last month had the same problem. I opened it up and the whole thing smelled like a damp basement, beans were all crumbly and had that greenish fuzz on some of them. I know green beans still have a decent shelf life if they're handled right but this stuff was clearly old stock somebody was trying to dump. The price was too good at like a buck fifty a pound, should have known better. These people are hitting up all the local roasters and cafes too, trying to unload whatever they can't sell elsewhere. If you're after cheap beans in bulk it's way safer to go through a wholesaler or a shop you've dealt with before, even if it costs a bit more.
