Thought my espresso machine was broken for 3 months
Turned out I was just using the wrong grind size for my beans. Switched from a fine grind to medium and it started pulling shots like a dream. Has anyone else had a machine issue that was actually just a simple mistake?

@wyatt_green31 Is it really that big of a deal though?

Three months though? That's a long time to be frustrated over something that basic. Maybe you just needed to read the manual once. I've pulled shots with pre-ground grocery store stuff and it came out fine, so medium vs fine can't be that huge of a difference unless your machine is super picky.

Wait, you really think three months is too long?
Look man, I felt the exact same way. Thought people who complained about grind size were just being dramatic. Bought my machine, used pre-ground stuff for weeks. Was happy enough.
Then I got a bag of fresh beans and tried grinding myself. Set it to what I thought was medium. First shot was sour. Next one was bitter. Then sour again. Spent two months pulling bad shots and getting pissed off. Thought my machine was broken or I got a dud.
Finally watched a video where the guy literally showed medium vs fine side by side. The difference in how they looked, felt, and flowed through the portafilter was huge. That's when it clicked. Three months of frustration because I was too stubborn to learn one simple thing. So yeah, I get it now. It's not about the machine being picky, it's about the grind being wrong.
