Stopped cleaning my espresso machine water tank daily after a repair guy set me straight

I was scrubbing that thing every morning for months until a tech from Brew Tech LA told me I was stripping the anti-scale coating and causing more buildup. He said just a rinse every 3 days is plenty, been doing that for 2 weeks now and shots taste the same. Any other owners been overcleaning stuff by accident?

Three days? Man I've been scrubbing mine since I got the thing like I was prepping for surgery. Bet my tank is sending out an amber alert like "please stop touching me." Now I just swirl some water around and call it a day, the espresso doesn't know the difference.

Man that's exactly the kind of thing I'd do too, like scrubbing my car's paint off thinking it was cleaning it. I had a friend who used to descale his kettle every single week, ended up with pinhole leaks after a year, the repair guy just laughed at him. Bet your water tank feels relieved now, probably sends you a little thank you every morning. I overcleaned my drip tray once, scrubbed the finish right off the metal part, looked like a scratched up old pan for months. What's your espresso setup pair with that machine anyway?
