Six months after switching to oat milk only, my Modesto shop changed character
I run a small spot in Modesto and back in March I swapped all our dairy for oat based on a supplier deal. At first regulars complained, three people actually walked out over it. But by June the same folks were ordering oat lattes without asking and new customers started coming in from a yoga studio down the block. The texture is foamier and drinks hold heat longer, which changed how fast I steam milk. My pour times got slower because oat needs more attention, so I hired a second barista for weekend rush, that cost me an extra $240 a week. The vibe shifted from quick grab and go to people sitting with their cups for 40 minutes. I didn't plan any of this, it just followed the milk change. Has anyone else seen a menu tweak quietly alter their whole customer base like that?
Seems like a stretch to say oat milk changed your whole customer base. Foam texture and heat don't really pull in a yoga crowd, more likely that studio just opened and people needed a spot. Hiring a second barista for $240 a week over slower pours sounds like a choice, not something the milk forced on you.
