Pulled the plug on my espresso machine after a 3 hour line at Blue Bottle
So I was at the Blue Bottle on Sunset last Saturday and the line was around the block. 45 minutes just to order, then another 20 for the drink. I stood there thinking, I pay $5.50 for this and I still have to wait an hour. Meanwhile my own machine at home does the same thing in 2 minutes. That line made me realize I'm not selling coffee, I'm selling patience. But here's the thing, when I told my regulars I was dropping the fancy espresso program, half of them got mad. The other half said they only came for the drip anyway. Question for the group: is the espresso bar worth the headache for the crowd it brings, or should I keep it simple and focus on speed? Has anyone else ditched a big menu item after a busy day made you question everything?
