PSA: The $2,500 espresso machine I bought last year is a total debate now.

I got a La Marzocco Linea Mini for the shop, thinking the brand name and quality would be a big draw. It makes great coffee, sure, but the cost is huge and I'm not sure it brings in enough extra customers to pay for itself. On the other hand, my old machine was always breaking and costing me in repairs. Has anyone else done the math on a big equipment buy like this and felt burned or saved?

My buddy's cafe went under partly because of a loan for a fancy roaster.

Look at it from the cafe's side though. If that loan payment was huge every month, it could sink you even with a good roaster. Tough spot for @park.abby's friend.

Our old machine cost more in repairs, so @park.abby's friend's story doesn't match my math.
