My espresso machine died right at 7am rush last Tuesday
The grinder just seized up mid-pull and I had a line of 12 people waiting. Ended up running to the Starbucks down the block to buy a bag of their pre-ground just to get through the morning. Anyone else keep a backup grinder handy or am I the only one who learned this the hard way?

Learned that lesson myself a few years back and it still stings to think about. It's funny how one broken machine can totally wreck your whole day. I think this is part of a bigger thing where we all rely way too much on a single backup plan or a single piece of gear. The moment it fails, everything else falls apart. It's like when your car breaks down and you realize you never bothered to learn the bus route. We get so comfortable with our routines that we forget to build in a second option. Do you think most people just assume their stuff will always work until it doesn't?

Not really @riley_west, most people plan for the basics breaking, they just don't publicize it. Maybe that's just me but I bet the average person already has a bus app on their phone and a spare tire in the trunk, they just don't talk about it until the thing actually fails.
