Just found a trick to speed up my morning espresso shots without ruining quality
I was struggling with slow pulls during the morning rush, losing like 2 minutes per drink. Then I tried pre-wetting my puck with a tiny spray of water before tamping and it shaved off 15 seconds per shot. Has anyone else tried this or got a better hack for busy hours?

Pre-wetting the puck is a solid trick. I got a similar bump by going down one step on my grinder setting and adding a quick stir with a toothpick before tamping. Shaved about 10 seconds off my pulls and gave me less channeling. Try using a spray bottle with a fine mist, just two quick spritzes, and see if that cuts it down further.

Prewetting the puck is a solid trick" - is it though? I've tried it a few times and honestly couldn't tell if it was making a real difference or just placebo from my morning fog. And @alexw75 using the spray bottle on the cat might actually be the most practical outcome here. If you're shaving 10 seconds off pulls and chasing that last bit of channeling, maybe just look at your beans or water temp instead of turning espresso into a lab experiment.

Water temp fixed my channeling way more than a spritz of water ever did.

Bought a cheap little spray bottle from a grocery store and gave it a shot after reading this... ended up using it on my cat when she tried to jump on the counter mid-pull. Now my shots are faster and she stays on the floor, win-win for busy mornings.
