I think the rush to switch to pour-over coffee is hurting our bottom line at Bean Central on Figueroa
Last month I saw three cafes in the LA area ditch their espresso machines for pour-over bars after that viral video about third wave coffee. I tried it myself at Bean Central for a week and my morning rush dropped by 40 percent - people don't want to wait 4 minutes for a single cup. Has anyone else noticed a big drop in sales after chasing the pour-over trend?

Nah, the quality difference is worth the wait for real coffee drinkers.

Man, I feel for you on this one. "Pouring over a hot new trend" is exactly right, lindab49. I saw a shop in Echo Park do the same thing last summer and they were back to their old setup within two months because the regulars who paid the bills just wanted their latte and go. There's this weird idea that if you don't chase every viral coffee video you're somehow behind, but in reality you're just making your morning crew wait twice as long for a cup that tastes maybe 5 percent better. Your 40 percent drop is rough, but it matches what I've seen happen to three places near me that tried it.
