Dropped $3,100 on one of those fancy self-serve kiosks for my place in Echo Park, big regret
Back in 2021 I got talked into buying a self-serve ordering kiosk by a sales guy who swore it was the future for small coffee spots. Cost me $3,100 plus another $400 to wire it in and set up the software. For the first two months it was kind of cool watching people poke at the screen, but then the regulars started complaining. My whole thing has always been chatting with folks at the counter, that little back and forth about their day, and the kiosk killed it. Half my morning crew just stopped coming in and I couldn't figure out why until my buddy Marco said the machine made the place feel like an airport. It also froze up every other Tuesday and I'd lose orders, which is a real joy at 7am with a line out the door. Ended up yanking it out and eating the loss, and honestly the counter feels like my cafe again. Did any of you get suckered into one of these, and did it ever actually pay for itself?
