Unpopular take: I actually hate those super compact cable testers everyone raves about
Had a senior guy tell me last Friday that my old Fluke 117 was 'outdated junk' and I should upgrade... but after watching him fight a tiny screen for 10 minutes on a simple coax run, I'm not convinced smaller is better. Has anyone else found the newer testers harder to read in bright sunlight?

Hang on, did he really call a Fluke 117 outdated junk? That thing is a workhorse. Honestly, I've seen guys spend more time squinting at those little color screens on the new testers than it takes to just use a simple meter and a tone generator. The sunlight thing is real too, I had to pull a truck over a month ago just to shade the screen on a friend's compact tester so he could read a resistance value.

Ngl @rileynelson, I gotta push back here - that old Fluke screen is practically unreadable in bad light and the lack of data logging means you're stuck writing everything down like it's 1995. Tbh, a modern tester with a proper backlit display saves way more time than the nostalgia of a "workhorse" that can't even graph a voltage drop.
