Tried using heat shrink on a weather damaged drop line, worked better than I figured

Had a customer over on Maple Street last Tuesday, their drop was getting water in the connector after every storm. I stuck a piece of adhesive lined heat shrink over the connector and gave it a good 30 seconds with my heat gun. Three weeks later no signal loss or corrosion, I'm thinking about doing this on all my exposed connections from now on. Anybody else tried this trick or got a better way to seal them up?

Old me probably would've melted the whole thing and made it worse!

Three years ago I tried to fix a similar problem and ended up making it ten times worse and I have the scars to prove it. There's something about being older that gives you just enough patience to NOT grab the blowtorch right away. @barbara_baker57 I guarantee your "old me" was just as smart as current you, she just hadn't learned the hard lessons yet. Every single mistake we make is basically a free lesson in what NOT to do the next time around. So your old self melting things down sounds like she was just building the blueprint for the patient goddess you are now.
