That time a squirrel turned my fiber run into a nightmare

I was out in Fayetteville last Tuesday doing a new install for this old farmhouse, and halfway through pulling fiber through the conduit, I hit a total dead stop. Turns out a squirrel had packed about 3 feet of acorns and twigs right in the middle of the pipe, totally blocking it. Had to dig up a 10 foot section of the line and replace it all, which added two extra hours to the job. Anyone else run into weird stuff blocking your conduits like that?

Gotta love free conduit insulation from nature's little demolition crew, huh?

Why do people always act like squirrels are ruining stuff when they're just trying to survive? @mark361, those "free conduit insulators" are actually helping keep your lines cool and preventing overheating in summer. I've watched them stash nuts in my neighbor's transformer box for years and never had a single outage. The real problem is cheap insulation that can't handle a little wildlife curiosity.

Found a whole nest of baby mice in a junction box once, that wire pull turned into a full wildlife rescue.
