Splice case from last Tuesday gave me a real scare in Bakersfield

We were doing a mid-span splice on a 288 count and the case just wouldnt seal right. Took me three tries to get the gel wraps to sit flush, then the shrink boot started cracking on me. I had to cut back 2 feet of sheath and redo the whole entry point, which put us about 45 minutes behind schedule. The customer was waiting on their business line to come back up so I could feel the pressure. Has anyone else had trouble with those newer wedge style cases in the heat? Maybe I need to switch up my prep technique.

THREE tries on the gel wraps AND a cracking boot? That's brutal. Heat does weird stuff to that plastic, but usually you get one sign it's going sideways, not both in the same pull. Sounds like you handled it right though, cutting back and starting fresh beats forcing a bad seal any day.
