Showerthought: That drywall dust collector I laughed at actually works
I spent years just letting drywall dust fly everywhere whenever I cut a box out. Then a guy I worked with in Phoenix brought out this cheap Dust Buster bag for $25 and I made fun of him. After watching him finish a whole office job with almost zero cleanup, I grabbed one for myself last week. Has anyone else found a tool they thought was gimmicky that turned out to save real time?

Did you also notice that the dust bag actually catches the fine particles that usually hang in the air forever? I mean the big chunks are annoying but that floating dust that coats everything is the real nightmare (especially if you've got a client who breathes). Was there a specific moment where the cleanup time difference really hit you? Because for me it was when I walked back into a room I cut in and didn't see that gray haze hanging around. I still can't believe I went ten years just sweeping and wiping like a fool.

Yeah the "gray haze hanging around" line got me. I remember doing a bathroom reno for this older couple and they kept saying the air felt heavy. I figured it was just my crappy shop vac situation. But then I packed up for the day and my sinuses were wrecked. Next morning I wake up, blow my nose, and it's like drywall colored. That's when I started actually caring about the fine stuff. Now I wear a respirator even for quick cuts after hearing about that drywaller who got silicosis in his thirties.

Actually, the bag only catches what the vac pulls in. That floating haze proves the vac isn't pulling enough.
