Let my new guy pre-drill a 2 inch hole through a rim joist, and the run came out cleaner than mine
I usually fish the drop down through the floor cavity with a glow rod, then hog out whatever's in the way with a paddle bit and hope for the best. On Tuesday I handed the drill to a kid three weeks out of trade school and he asked if he could drill four small pilot holes around the outline first. I figured it was wasted time, but the hole came out so square that the cable slid through with zero chafing, and I didn't have to fight the boot plate back on. We ran 14 drops in that house in just under 6 hours, which is about two hours faster than my normal pace on a two story. So now I'm wondering if I've been doing it the hard way for 11 years and calling it experience. Anyone else picked up a trick from someone green that they still use?
