Found out my old boss was charging customers $80 per outlet and paying us $12 of it
I was cleaning out my truck last week and found a stack of old work orders from a job I did back in 2019 in Aurora. Started looking at the numbers out of boredom and noticed the customer was billed $80 per outlet install, plus $45 for each wall fish. My check for that whole day was $140 after I did 9 outlets and 4 drops. Did the math and the company pulled in over $900 off my labor alone, and I saw maybe 15 percent of it. I asked a guy who still works there and he said the rates went up but our cut is still the same. I get that overhead and trucks cost money, but that split feels insane now that I can see it on paper. Any of you ever peek at the customer invoice and get mad about what you were making on the same job?
