Visited a custom shop in Portland last week and noticed they use 3M's new sanding disc
Honestly I'm wondering if I need to adjust my technique or if it's just the disc material.

Wait, has anyone checked if those 3M discs are actually meant for a different backing pad size than what's standard? @alicesingh might've been onto something by asking how long I tried them - but the real issue could be that the hook-and-loop pattern doesn't match up right with older tools. I swapped over to a different brand's pad after noticing the discs kept slipping off center, and that alone fixed most of the uneven sanding marks I was blaming on my technique. Maybe the shop didn't set you up with the exact pad those discs were designed for.
