That time my boss swore by cheap drawer slides and I paid the price

My boss told me to use the $3 drawer slides from the big box store instead of spending $12 on the good ones. I argued with him for like 10 minutes but he said 'they all work the same' and walked off. Three months later I got a callback from a client in Arlington because two of their kitchen drawers kept jamming and one fell off the track entirely. Having to pull out 16 drawers and replace every single slide on a Saturday cost way more time and money than just doing it right the first time. Has anyone else had a senior guy give you bad advice that you knew was wrong but went along with anyway?

Got burned the exact same way a few years ago on a big kitchen job. Made the switch to Blum soft-close slides after that and never looked back, even when the boss grumbled about the cost. Saved my weekend and my reputation when the cheap ones started failing six months later.

@anthonymurray you nailed it man. It's crazy how many people just grab the cheapest option without thinking about the long game. I see it everywhere now - car parts, tools, even furniture. Everyone wants to save a buck today but ends up paying triple later when stuff breaks down. The cheap stuff always seems fine at first but six months in you're kicking yourself. And the boss never sees it coming until he's getting calls from angry customers on a Saturday night lol. Quality stuff pays for itself in peace of mind alone.

Oh man, @anthonymurray I feel your pain on the Blum slides - I had the exact same thing happen with a cabinet job in my buddy's house. The cheap ones from the orange store looked fine for like two weeks then started squeaking and catching. Had to pull everything out on a Sunday, replace them all with the decent soft-close ones, and my buddy at least bought me lunch (which felt like a slap in the face honestly).
