That one Tuesday when everything went right for a change

I had a job last week where I was installing some custom maple drawer boxes for a kitchen in Portland. Every single dovetail joint lined up perfect on the first try, no gaps, no sanding needed. My apprentice even showed up on time and didn't ask me ten questions about the router bit. Has anyone else had a day where the wood just cooperated with you?

Yeah I remember reading this thing somewhere about how wood is like a living thing even after it's cut. They said it has its own internal stress patterns from how it grew. So some days the grain is just in a good mood or whatever. I've had mornings where I set up a mortise and tenon and it just slid together like butter. And other days where the same piece of wood fights me every step. It's weird. Maybe it's humidity or temperature or just plain luck. But I believe it.
