Saw a 1930s kitchen built-in at a house tour in Savannah and the drawers still slide like butter
I went on a historic home tour in Savannah last month and the whole thing was fine until I hit the kitchen. There was this original built-in from around 1932 with drawers that slid smoother than anything I've built in 15 years at the bench. I got down on my knees and looked at the runners and it was just a simple wood-on-wood setup with maybe a little wax, no metal slides anywhere. The guide said a family had used that kitchen daily for almost 90 years. So what am I missing with all these soft close ball bearing slides I keep buying? Anyone here still building traditional wood runners on purpose?
