Had to pick between a full overlay and inset door style for a kitchen job

The client wanted a modern look but their old cabinets had uneven frames. I went with full overlay doors to hide the frame gaps. It took an extra day to get the hinges set right so everything lined up. Has anyone else found a good trick for getting overlay doors to hang straight the first time?

Nah, story sticks are great until you drop one in the paint bucket. My trick is using a little level on the hinge cup before tightening the first screw - keeps me from looking like I'm wrestling a wild animal. Still managed to mount one door upside down last month though. Had to stare at it for a solid 30 seconds before my brain caught up with what my hands did.

Try a story stick for hinge placement.

Unless you've got three hands.
