A finisher at the Portland build told me my door gaps were "consistent but bored", and it fixed a problem I didn't know I had
I was building shaker cabinet doors in my garage and my 1/8 inch gaps were dead even on every single one, which I figured was the whole point. Then this finisher walked the kitchen at a job in Portland and said they looked like they came off a machine, all the same size with no life in them. So I started leaving the gaps a hair wider on the lower cabinets and a touch tighter up top, and the whole run reads better to the eye. Took me three kitchens to trust it, but the last set I hung the homeowner ran her hand along the doors and said they felt custom instead of store bought. Anyone else get called out on something being too perfect? Curious how you handle that.
Wait, a finisher really said your gaps were "bored"? That is wild to me because I would have taken even gaps as the goal too. I hear what you're saying about leaving the bottom a hair wider and the top tighter, but honestly trusting that by eye would take me way longer than three kitchens to feel right.
