Tried to save $40 on a used table saw and it cost me twice that to fix it

Last Saturday I picked up a used Craftsman table saw off Craigslist for $60. Guy said it just needed a new belt. Got it home, put a belt on, fired it up, and the arbor was bent. Had to buy a whole new arbor assembly for $50 plus shipping. Should have just bought the new Ryobi for $120. Anyone else have a 'deal' that backfired like this?

Yeah @anthonymurray I heard the same thing about "just needs a belt" from a buddy.

Yeah, been there. Bought a "runs great" pressure washer for fifty bucks, got it home and the pump was shot. Ended up spending almost a hundred on a new pump and fittings. Would have been better off just getting a new one from the start. That "just needs a belt" line always seems to mean something way worse is hiding underneath.
