Saw a $220 dutch oven at the outlet in Boise and the clerk talked me out of it in 4 minutes
Honestly I walked into that Le Creuset outlet in Boise ready to drop $220 on a 5.5 quart dutch oven because everyone online acts like it's the last pot you'll ever need. The clerk, older guy, maybe 60, watched me heft the thing for a minute and then asked what I actually cook on a normal week. I said soups, beans, the occasional loaf of bread, and he goes "so you need a pot that holds heat, not a status symbol" and pointed me to a $60 Lodge enameled one on the shelf behind me. He pulled out his phone and showed me a photo of his own Lodge from 2011, enamel chipped at the rim but still going, said the expensive one cracks just the same if you shock it with cold water. I bought the Lodge, spent the other $160 on a cast iron skillet and a lid, and six months later the cheap one is still doing fine. Has anyone actually worn out a dutch oven, or is the price tag just insurance people never cash in?
