Put $200 into a cheap dehumidifier for my basement and it paid for itself in 3 months
The thing pulled 2 gallons of water a day out of the air down there, and now I don't have to worry about mold on my stored tools or that musty smell when I walk in... anyone else seen that kind of difference from a simple fix like this?

Man, that's wild! 2 gallons a day is no joke for a basement. I've seen the same thing with a cheap unit in my crawlspace, total game changer for killing that damp smell.

That cheap unit really does the trick if you get the right size. You gotta make sure to empty the bucket or run a hose to a drain though, otherwise you come back to a flooded floor. I just drilled a hole in my basement wall and ran a gravity hose outside, zero maintenance since. Also check the filter every couple months because dust clogs them up fast and kills the efficiency. Once you dial it in, it's almost like having a second HVAC system down there.

Man, that's seriously impressive! @the_james my buddy Steve had a similar setup in his old house, kept a dehumidifier running in the basement and his guitar gear stopped getting rusty after a few months. Now he swears by it for keeping any damp space dry.
