Overheard a guy at Home Depot say expensive paint is a scam

I was grabbing some 2x4s and heard this older dude telling his son that premium paint is just a waste of $50 a gallon. He said the cheap stuff works fine if you put on two coats. Now I'm stuck choosing between a $35 can and a $65 one for my kitchen cabinets, so which way should I go?

You ever see someone try to paint cabinets with the watery cheap stuff? My buddy did that for his bathroom vanity and it took him four coats and it still looked streaky like a bad dye job. The cheap paint just wouldn't stick to the wood right and he ended up returning all of it to save his sanity. If you're doing cabinets that take a beating every day, I'd just spring for the good stuff and save yourself the headache.
