Bought that fancy orthopedic mattress topper everyone raves about, and I think my back is actually worse
I spent $150 on a memory foam topper from a brand that had thousands of glowing reviews, but after three weeks of sleeping on it I wake up with a stiff lower back that I never had before. My husband loves the thing and says I'm crazy, but I honestly feel like I'm fighting the foam all night instead of just resting. Anybody else find that these toppers make you feel like you're sleeping on a warm marshmallow that won't let you move?

The marshmallow comparison is spot on. Same thing happened to me with a highly praised topper last year. After about ten days I realized I was waking up sore in places that had never bothered me before, like my hips and shoulders. My husband was comfortable too, but I felt like I was sleeping on top of a giant sponge that absorbed all my movement and then pushed back wrong. Ended up giving it to my sister's dog bed, which the dog loves, and went back to my old lumpy mattress that I now appreciate way more.

Got the same mattress topper everyone was talking about and it wrecked my back too. Took me two months before I finally just flipped it over and slept on the firm side, which helped a little but not much. What actually fixed it was swapping it out for a cheap foam topper from the drugstore, the kind that's like an inch thick and way denser. That thing let me sink in just enough without fighting me all night. Sometimes those fancy ones are just too soft for people who move around a lot in their sleep.

Three weeks sounds like enough time to know if it's working, but honestly my sister went through three different toppers before she realized she just sleeps better with a firmer surface. She kept one on her guest bed and now whenever I crash there I wake up feeling like I got into a fight with a bag of wet cement. Maybe give it another week or just flip it over and see if the other side feels different before you commit to hating it.
