Bought a $20 security camera from a gas station, caught something wild
I was at a Shell station in Tulsa last week and grabbed this cheap camera on a whim because it was next to the register. Set it up in my backyard to watch for raccoons, but instead it recorded my neighbor sneaking into my shed at 3 AM. Should I ask him about it or just skip the confrontation and lock the shed?

Lock it down first then ask him, saves you the headache of stolen stuff.

Man, that's a solid find for $20 though. Most cheap cameras have terrible night vision but yours caught something useful. A little correction though, that camera is probably not recording 24/7 unless you have it plugged in somewhere. Most of those gas station specials only work on motion detection, so your neighbor must have triggered it by walking past. That means he wasn't sneaking around quiet enough, which is actually a good thing for you.
I'd say lock the shed first before anything else. That way you're not leaving your stuff out there unprotected while you decide what to do. Then maybe casually bring it up when you see him outside, like "hey, my security camera picked up some weird motion last night, you see anything?" That way you're not accusing him directly but he knows you're watching. Have you checked the footage again to see if he actually took anything?

and honestly i think you gotta lock that shed AND have a direct talk with him. those cheap cameras are perfect for this because nobody expects them to actually work, but yours caught something real. if you just lock it and say nothing, hes gonna know you know anyway because suddenly the shed is locked after all these years. might as well just be straight up with him. knock on his door, say "hey my camera caught you in my shed at 3am, what were you doing?" and see how he reacts. if he lies or gets defensive then you know hes up to no good. if he comes up with some legit reason like he thought he saw something back there or whatever, then you can decide from there. either way that $20 camera just paid for itself a hundred times over.
