Bought a $12 pair of binoculars at a yard sale and they're better than my $80 pair from Amazon
Found these old Bushnells at a sale last Saturday in Maplewood. Guy said they were from the 80s and I figured why not. Now I'm wondering if I should just skip buying new gear and hit more yard sales for vintage stuff. Anyone else find old gear that outperforms modern stuff?

Had a buddy find a pair of old Nikon Action Extreme binoculars at a thrift store for $10 last year. He was looking for something to take bird watching and figured they'd be trash. Took them out to the marsh and they were crystal clear, way better than his newer Vortex pair he paid $150 for. He even tested them side by side and the old ones had brighter colors and sharper edges. Now he swears by checking estate sales every weekend for vintage camera gear.

Oh man, that's such a great story! It's wild how those older lenses were just built different, especially for the price. Nothing beats that feeling of stumbling onto a hidden gem like that at a thrift store.

Bet your buddy's bank account is crying over that Vortex purchase now. Sounds like he got a $10 lesson in why Nikon's old glass is basically the forbidden treasure of the thrift store world. Guess estate sales are the new hunting grounds for anyone who doesn't want to get fleeced.
